System Of The Undead

Chapter 236: Jason Meets...!

Chapter 236: Jason Meets...!

Jason was prepared to fight to the death with this creature. Each step he took, the urgency of the situation weighed heavily on him. Now on the third floor, he noticed that it was filled with filth, excrement, and urine, unlike the second floor.

Jason didn’t know what to make of it, but he realized that something that could perform bodily functions had stayed here, which was impossible for a zombie.

Checking his radar, Jason realized he was getting closer to the zombie. He couldn’t explain why, but he couldn’t shake off this uneasy feeling.

There was no way an undead creature could defecate or urinate since those organs were no longer functional.

Jason tapped the hilt of his sword against a metal bar, creating an echoing sound that was sure to attract anything in the room.

Slowly, he walked towards the threat, hearing movements inside one of the rooms. Jason prepared for battle, kicking the door in with his sword ready to be stained with decaying flesh. However, that wasn’t the case.

The moment he opened the door, he saw a frightened little boy hiding behind one of the beds. The boy was malnourished and emaciated to the point where his ribs were visible.

"P-P-Please don’t hurt me!" the boy pleaded, but Jason couldn’t believe that a human was living in such deplorable conditions, let alone a child.

There was no way anyone could survive here without food. But why was it indicating that the boy was an evolved?

[[It looks like this child has consumed a fragment]]

Chronos informed Jason. This would explain why he was alive; the fragment was keeping him alive. But didn’t one have to die first before consuming a fragment?

Jason knew that having this thing inside you was the worst possible scenario for anyone, but he hadn’t encountered anyone else who could consume a fragment and live.

"How is this possible?" Jason had a conversation in his head with Chronos.

[[The fragment in him isn’t strong, it is the size of a grain of sand, but it has somehow managed to merge with his heart]

Chronos informed him.

This was an extremely rare scenario, and it shouldn’t have been possible. No matter how small the fragment was, it was poisonous to humans.

Jason couldn’t believe the condition of the child.

He walked towards him, but then he glanced over his shoulder to see multiple corpses, stripped of their flesh, laying there.

"What the...!" Jason muttered, taking a step back and pointing his sword at the terrified boy.

There was no way that this boy was consuming the undead. It shouldn’t be possible, but it would explain why he had survived for as long as he did. He was no older than ten, and judging from his clothes, he had been a patient here.

Jason knew he couldn’t let his guard down after witnessing this.

This person was a potential threat that he had to eliminate as soon as possible.

[[Wait, I do not detect any hostility from this boy]]

Chronos called his attention to the situation at hand. Jason couldn’t trust anything anymore.

This world had clouded his perception, and he knew that if it came down to it, he would even kill a child.

But Chronos was right; zombies couldn’t perform these actions. This meant that the boy in front of him still had the will to survive.

It was despicable that he had survived by consuming zombies, thanks to the fragment that had merged with his head instead of his brain.

Jason quickly sheathed his sword and composed himself. He needed to reason with the child.

"Hey kid, I won’t hurt you, but I need you to tell me how you survived," Jason muttered. He had no food to offer, and if the boy could consume zombies, there was a chance he could consume the living. This could be a potential advantage.

The child didn’t respond.

Instead, Jason noticed his eyes darting around, searching for an escape route.

Jason momentarily gave the child the opening he was looking for, and the child made a run for the door.

But Jason grabbed him by the wrist before he could escape.

"Stop it," Jason said, feeling a sharp pain on his wrist as the child bit into his flesh. He slapped the child away, seeing the teeth marks on his skin, but he understood that the child was defending himself.

However, something strange caught Jason’s attention. The area where he was bitten started to emit a green glow.

"Huh?" Jason thought to himself, feeling his arm go numb. Acting quickly, he wrapped his arm tightly to restrict blood flow and prevent whatever was happening from spreading. It was a quick-thinking move, and he used his sword to cut open the wound, allowing the blood to spill out.

[[It appears he has mutated and developed an ability to paralyze his targets with one bite]]

Chronos informed Jason, but he wasn’t surprised.

"No wonder he was able to subdue these zombies," Jason thought, a slight smile forming on his face.

The boy sobbed in the corner, realizing he had made a grave mistake. But he also felt a strange connection when he tried to bite Jason.

Jason walked over to the boy, who buried his face in his arms, anticipating what would happen next. But instead, he felt a warm hand stroking his dirty hair.

"It’s okay, kid. Let’s get you out of here," Jason said. He couldn’t believe his luck. He might have found the very thing he needed to take down Schneider.

He secured the medicine, finding more than enough for their needs. There was also an extra bag lying around, allowing him to take twice as much. It was time to get out of there, and fast.

Jason wondered the kind of life this boy must have endured but what bothered him the most was if he would be able to incorporate him back into society.

But the truth was, Jason didn’t care about any of this right now, he had found a weapon to aid in his battle against these parasites but Chronos noticed something in one of the rooms that Jason didn’t pay attention to but it kept it to itself.
