Chapter 121 Metropolis
Chapter 121 Metropolis
Chapter 121 Metropolis
Why?
Batman doesn't understand:
"What's the difference between you and Diana?"
"That's more complicated."
Joey also had a near-certain guess as to why he hadn't yet regained his abilities:
"You and Diana only had one destiny, but I may have two."
His fate as a war correspondent and his fate as a Kryptonian were separated in this distorted reality.
Joey's existence as a war correspondent has been restored, but as Kal-El's other half, he is still imprisoned in the Metropolis underground in this distorted reality!
They now have to head to the metropolis to find Joey's other half.
"Let's heal our wounds before we set off."
Batman glanced at the metal shards still embedded in Joey's chest; some wounds were still bleeding. If they weren't treated, they probably wouldn't be able to go anywhere.
Fortunately, one of the best doctors in the United States and even the world happened to be visiting Wayne Manor:
Thomas Wayne.
"This is not a minor injury, child."
Thomas Wayne gently removed the metal fragments embedded in Joey's body piece by piece, then looked at Joey carefully and adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses:
"If we were to rank these kinds of injuries, from one to four, the one you were hit by the missile before would be a five. You survived entirely by luck."
And this time there are at least three, you should thank those thick layers of fat and muscle on your chest, otherwise you might not even have the chance to stand in front of me.
I don't know what these things are all about, but please be extremely careful. Escaping death once in a while doesn't mean you'll succeed every time.
The gentle and caring tone of old Thomas made Joey, who was used to the arrogant old Batman, feel somewhat uncomfortable.
"Thank you, Dr. Thomas."
Batman just gave a brief overview of what he missed during his bedroom adventure with Diana.
First, a male clown appeared out of nowhere and wreaked havoc at the party. After Batman beat him half to death and fled the scene, the guests finally realized what had happened and called the police.
This confirms some of Joey's guesses: people with two destinies are indeed split into two lives; at least the Joker and Martha were separated.
Accompanying the police were Thomas Wayne, who had just undergone surgery, and the meeting, which was abruptly halted.
Martha Wayne, CEO of Wayne Group, rushed home.
While the police were investigating the scene, old Thomas was busy treating Joey's injuries.
Bruce finally had the opportunity to approach his mother, who had been intentionally or unintentionally avoiding him ever since they entered the manor:
"Martha, we need to talk! You were the one who put on the helmet, how are we supposed to get this back on track!"
Martha looked at Bruce, her eyes filled with lingering sorrow and pain:
"Bruce..."
In Bruce's newly acquired memories, Martha was a true strong woman.
With her husband Thomas focused on medicine and had no interest in inheriting and managing the vast business, she single-handedly took charge of the daily management of the entire Wayne Group.
This dignified woman doted on her son, Bruce Wayne, to an extreme degree.
Now all these illusions have been shattered, and Martha has regained her original memories, but she has lost the Joker's thinking and logic.
Faced with Bruce's questioning, Martha could no longer contain her grief and regret. She hugged Bruce and cried loudly.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry for everything I did to Selena and Alfred!"
Bruce gently patted his mother's back, while Selena and Alfred cast curious glances at him, but this was something they were destined to keep secret.
"tell me,"
As if he had made a huge decision, Bruce continued to press the emotionally distraught Martha:
How can we restore everything to its original state?
"Why restore it to its original state? Isn't this world perfect enough?"
Martha looked up at her son, puzzled.
"Look at you, my child, how happy you are in this world! No one dies, there are no annoying bats, and not so many evil people..."
"No, you're wrong. Batman has always existed; I am Batman."
Batman looked at Harvey Dent, who was being carried onto a stretcher by medical personnel not far away. Half of his face had just been disfigured by the strong acid sprayed by the Joker.
At that moment, Batman saw the madness and neuroticism he was familiar with in that half of the face:
"And new villains are never absent. There is no such thing as a perfect world, especially not for this universe."
"Do you really want to put everything back the way it was?"
Martha looked at her son, whose determination she couldn't comprehend:
"At the moment of the explosion, I did everything in my power to surround you with all the beautiful things in this world. Why couldn't you just stop and accept it?"
"This world is indeed beautiful enough for me, so beautiful that I can't even imagine it."
Batman looked at every familiar face in the hall.
The gentle old Thomas, the doting Martha, the diligent and capable old Alfred, the obedient Catwoman, and the almost endless life of pleasure he had lived for the past decade or so...
But I refused.
This is completely unlike Batman's style.
This universe is decaying; he cannot simply wallow in a distorted reality that feels like a dream.
Superman observed the madness of the universe on a cosmic scale, while Batman observed the same phenomenon on the scale of a city like Gotham.
The world he knew before and the world he knew now were both created to torment all the heroes who existed, and every development in the situation steered the world's trajectory in a worse direction.
If we and Superman don't shoulder these responsibilities, sooner or later everything will head towards an even more serious collapse.
"You chose to face those colder and heavier realities."
Martha saw that her son's mind was made up. She loved Bruce unconditionally, and even if she were a murderer in the restored world, she was willing to restore everything for him.
"No matter what happens in that world, I just want you to know that I love you, my child."
The method to restore the entire world is simple: Martha, as the final operator, only needs to put on the Helmet of Fate again.
And now, the fragment of the Helm of Destiny is embedded in Joey's body, and all these problems seem to be about to be solved!
"If I were you, I wouldn't be so optimistic."
Joey had already removed the metal fragments that had pierced his body. With his upper body and face wrapped in medical bandages, he had truly become a bandaged man, much like 'Silent'.
The metal fragments in his hand glowed and rearranged themselves to form the outline of a helmet.
Or rather, half a helmet.
The good news is that Joey has fragments of a helmet on him.
The bad news is, there's only half.
Where did the other half go?
Joey pulled out his phone from his pocket and handed it over. It was a firsthand message from a news source in this world that he had received while removing the debris:
"Please watch the video."
Bruce looked at his phone screen and saw only a city ruin burning fiercely in a sea of fire.
Amidst these ruins, a distant building was severed in half by two flashing red rays.
The upper part of the entire building, along with the giant spherical metal logo on the roof, crashed to the ground.
Having dealt with Superman Clark Kent for so many years, Batman knew that building all too well.
That's the Daily Planet building, located in the Metropolitan area.
