Chapter 288: We've Come to the Right Place
Avoiding the sinister gaze of his other self, Tony quickly turned to Spider-Man and whispered, "Kid, have you seen any horror movies that handled scenes like this before?"
"How about we run away right now?"
"I agree!"
After saying that, the two of them pressed the button to go back.
Then nothing happened.
Unconvinced, the little spider pressed the button several more times, almost crushing it, before finally realizing it was indeed broken and letting out a gasp:
"Quack, this is really the end for us!"
His understanding of parallel universe journeys is that they are like the various Spider-Men in the Spider-Legion series, with general similarities but different styles and subtle differences.
Instead of being hunted down by a deepdark fantasy version of Mr. Tony Stark like this!
As for the other Mr. Stark, he's also an unreliable character. Why did the teleporter break down at such a crucial moment?
"How would I know?!"
Tony discovered that ever since he successfully built the time machine and traced back to Joey's universe, he seemed to have gotten tainted by something dirty, and every time he tried to teleport, something minor or major would happen.
"This is definitely not my fault; it must be a problem with the part of the programming Batman was responsible for!"
However, he knew with absolute certainty that this was not his fault, and immediately shifted the blame to Batman, who was in another world—after all, the super genius Tony never makes mistakes!
The released war machine soldiers possessed powerful firepower and attacked with unbridled ferocity. The two were now in the center of a densely populated city, unsure whether to retaliate or not.
"At this point, is there any point in discussing who's right and who's wrong?!"
Even with Spider-Man's strong willpower, he gradually found it difficult to continue under such strain, yet he still didn't forget to criticize Iron Man's blame-shifting behavior:
"We need to find a way to escape from here first, otherwise Mr. Stark, you'll only have 'Batman is fully responsible!' engraved on your tombstone."
Just as the two were caught in this inexplicable encounter and were falling into a disadvantageous position, a magical incantation was recited, resounding throughout the entire New York sky:
"The Ring of Laggardor!"
Golden light shields covered the entire combat zone from all directions, separating the two from the massive number of war machine soldiers.
This protective spell is usually used for defense, but it can also serve as a prison for the time being.
Doctor Strange arrived from the New York Sanctum Sanctorum, surrounded Tony and Spider-Man, and then used the methods of the Sorcerer Supreme to verify the truthfulness of their words:
"Stop, Tony, they really are from another world."
"Stop?" The cyborg Tony showed no sign of stopping. Instead, he manipulated the robot to turn its gun and fire directly at the Sorcerer Supreme.
"Who do you think you are? Daring to order your Uncle Tony around?"
After Tony in this universe became this semi-cyborg, his temper became even more explosive.
"Mr. Stark, that otherworldly version of you had a pretty terrible personality too!"
While Strange and Tony were making their arrangement, the little spider trapped inside the defensive magic circle materialized a power drill and began to drill into the indestructible Ring of Laggardor.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Mage of this world was not the kind who was all show and no substance. Even though the little spider kept digging with its hands and mouth until the drill was almost smoking, the formation trapping the two of them still showed no signs of loosening.
Spider-Man has had contact with the Spider-Army of the multiverse for quite some time, and from the snippets of conversation between those who have long been Spider-Man veterans,
He could often detect the slight dissatisfaction and hostility that the latter showed towards Iron Man Tony Stark.
"What do you mean by that 'also'? This is the multiverse, anything is possible. Who hasn't had a wicked version of themselves?!"
Sensing the underlying meaning in Spider-Man's words, Tony rolled his eyes in annoyance. Fortunately, while Spider-Man was wasting his time, Tony wasn't idle either. He pulled away Green Lantern Spider-Man, who was still trying to drill through the sky:
"Step back, kid. Let your Uncle Tony handle this!"
The Amorandum core was activated from the beginning, and after mimicking Doctor Strange's incantation, Tony spent some time reversing it.
The Ring of Laggardor that bound the two melted away.
Once the restrictions were lifted, Tony and Spider-Man prepared to escape, but before they knew it, they found themselves rewinding time and trapped once again in the protective spell that should have been dissolved.
After a moment of disorientation, Tony immediately recalibrated the time on his suit. He knew what had just happened; under the influence of the magical incantation, time had reversed for both of them.
The fight between the Sorcerer Supreme and Cyber Iron Man wasn't truly a fight to the death; at least Doctor Strange still had the capacity to keep an eye on the two visitors from another world.
Spider-Man tried everything from crowbars, electric drills, welding torches, and impact drills to lightsabers, but he couldn't scratch the protective shield even a single hole. So the two of them were back to where they were first locked up:
"Do you have any other tricks up your sleeve, Mr. Stark?"
If the two of them went all out, they could probably escape, but that would easily cause collateral damage. What could have been a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in a couple of sentences would probably have turned into a life-or-death struggle.
"How many times have I told you!"
Tony, who had been eating non-stop since leaving home, could only lament his bad luck and realize that it was best to conceal his identity and avoid embarrassment when traveling: "When acting as a superhero, just use your code name!"
As Tony pondered how to escape, he turned his head and saw a group of superheroes who had already arrived at the scene and were watching intently.
Among them were Captain America, the Hulk, and other complete strangers, who must be the Avengers of this world.
Tony was completely out of options. Although he really wanted to explore the limits of the Mark Q suit with the Amager core on his body, now was not a good time to make a move.
How can someone who has just arrived in someone else's world start a fight and tear down half of New York?
Thinking of this, Tony, who had decided to wait and see for the time being, recalled the reason he was trapped in this universe: there must be something wrong with the transporter on the other side, and the culprit must definitely be... "We're just really unlucky, we came to the wrong place—it's all Batman's fault!"
"What happened to the other world we were supposed to go to?!"
Overjoyed, Ganata was momentarily excited when the teleportation device was activated. As a tapeworm inside Galactus's belly, she had been passively traversing countless universes, but this was the first time she had actively chosen to travel through them.
Until a flash of white light, which sounded like a sudden crackling, appeared, and in the blink of an eye, Galactus found herself in…
Inside the original laboratory.
Ganata, who was teleporting in place, scratched her head. She was in a state of extreme hypoglycemia and it took her almost a second to figure out what was going on.
The portal was designed to transport ordinary cosmic beings, but its own nature has exceeded the limits of the portal.
In other words, this broken portal was overloaded, and she wasn't teleported away at all!
Upon realizing this, Ganata suddenly clutched her stomach, which hadn't been empty for a long time, and rolled around on the ground in agony, crying out, "I'm so hungry, so hungry, so hungry!"
At this point, she was practically a useless worm, unable to do anything but quietly wait for good news from the other two groups.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Batman, whom Tony had described as "fully responsible," spread his cape and landed on a desolate and lifeless land. His In-Game suit erected a green light barrier, isolating him from potentially harmful environments. Before he could even confirm his location, he heard a loud bang in the distance.
The earth-shattering tremors came from the same direction. Batman looked up and saw a colossal robot, larger than the moon and tens of thousands of meters tall, slapping the unfortunate Superman into the earth's crust.
Watching the robot in the distance beat Superman up again, Batman didn't need to confirm anything further; he already knew he was lucky to have come to the right place.
