Chapter 317 Happy Life
Chapter 317 Happy Life
January 10, 1998, 9:00 AM.
An Shiyu sat on the sofa, holding a travel guide in her hand. The book was open to the page on "Napa Valley Wineries," but she wasn't looking at it. Her eyes were on the page, but her focus wasn't on it.
Ling Yun came out of the bedroom, carrying two glasses of water. He placed one of them on the coffee table and sat down next to her.
"What are you looking at?" he asked.
"Napa Valley wineries." An Shiyu closed the book. "Are we going today?"
"Go if you want. This is our honeymoon. Although we still have to work, the most important thing is to enjoy time together as a couple and make up for what I missed when we were dating."
An Shiyu looked at Ling Yun without saying a word, but her eyes were practically overflowing with tears. She cupped Ling Yun's face in her hands and gave him a big kiss.
"What's wrong?" Ling Yun asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Lingyun, those words are enough for me, but I can't be unreasonable," she said. "You haven't been to the company in a long time because you've been with me."
Ling Yun thought for a moment. "I just went there last Wednesday."
"Last Wednesday?" An Shiyu repeated, "It's Monday today, five days have passed."
"Um."
"Didn't you used to say you couldn't miss a single day?"
"Nothing much has happened lately," Ling Yun said.
"real?"
"real."
An Shiyu didn't believe it. "Didn't Carly call you yesterday?"
"I hit him."
"And you call that nothing?"
"It's about things in Europe," Lingyun said. "The data center progress, local team recruitment, mainly reporting on work, nothing major."
An Shiyu turned around and looked at him.
"Lingyun," she said, "are you skipping work to be with me?"
Lingyun looked at her. "Not entirely. Microsoft has been quiet lately," Lingyun said. "They haven't caused any trouble."
An Shiyu was taken aback. "Microsoft? Why haven't they been causing trouble lately?" she asked.
Ling Yun thought for a moment, "I guess they're tired of the business war."
An Shiyu looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
"They fought for half a year before," Ling Yun said. "They lost, and they'll probably need some time to recover."
"You lost?"
"Um."
"Then you can stay with me forever?" she asked.
"I can hang out with you until the end of the month, then I'll be busy for a while."
"What are you busy with?"
"StarCraft Technology's next round of financing," he said.
An Shiyu didn't understand what "next round of financing" meant, but she knew it was related to money.
"How long will this take?"
"About a month."
An Shiyu nodded, smiled sweetly, and said, "I hope it won't delay our wedding!"
"Of course not. You can decide on the wedding arrangements. I'll try to finish them within 20 days and return to China 10 days in advance to accompany you for the wedding rehearsal."
Two o'clock in the afternoon.
Ling Yun sat in his study, a laptop in front of him. Several documents, all sent by Carly, were displayed on the screen. He read through them one by one, occasionally typing a few words in reply.
An Shiyu brought in a cup of tea and placed it beside him.
"How much longer?" she asked.
"soon."
An Shiyu stood to the side, looking at the screen. She recognized all the words, but couldn't understand them when they were put together.
"What are these?" she asked.
"The financing documents," Lingyun said. "They were sent by Goldman Sachs."
"Financing..."
"It's about finding investors," Ling Yun explained. "The company needs money to grow, so we find people to invest and give them a share of the company."
"How long will it take to finish this?" she asked.
"Before September."
"September..." she thought for a moment, "There are still twenty days left."
"Um."
"Will you still stay with me for these twenty days?"
Ling Yun looked up at her.
"I'll stay with you," he said.
An Shiyu smiled. She bent down, kissed him on the cheek, and then turned and walked out.
Ling Yun watched her retreating figure for a few seconds, then continued reading the documents.
At 7 p.m., they ate at an Italian restaurant.
The restaurant wasn't big, and there weren't many people. An Shiyu ordered pasta and salad, while Ling Yun ordered steak. An Shiyu ate very slowly, taking small bites, and occasionally glancing up at Ling Yun.
"What are you looking at?" Ling Yun asked.
"Look at you," she said, "After living in America for so long, you still prefer Chinese food."
"When we were ordering just now," An Shiyu said, "you looked at the menu for a long time, but in the end you still ordered steak."
"What's wrong with the steak?"
"You don't really want to eat steak," she said. "You just don't want me to think you're uncomfortable."
Ling Yun looked at her.
"I know," An Shiyu said. "You go shopping with me, eat with me, and go to all the places I want to go. You're very tired, but you never say anything."
Lingyun put down his knife and fork.
"I'm not tired," he said.
"You're lying." An Shiyu smiled. "But it's okay. I'm willing for you to lie to me."
She lowered her head and continued eating her noodles.
Tuesday, October 8th.
Napa Valley.
The vineyards stretched as far as the eye could see, with rows and rows of green vines standing neatly. An Shiyu walked along the ridges, surrounded by grapevines on both sides, some already ripe, a deep purplish-red, hanging in bunches on the vines.
She picked one and put it in her mouth.
"It's so sweet," she said.
Ling Yun stood next to her and picked one as well; it was indeed sweet.
In the afternoon, they went to the winery for a wine tasting. An Shiyu wasn't much of a drinker; she only took a small sip of each glass and then frowned.
"This is a bit sour."
"This is a bit astringent."
"This..." she thought for a moment, "This one is alright."
Ling Yun looked at her and smiled.
"What are you laughing at?" she asked.
"It's nothing. Westerners have been trying for over a hundred years to avoid sweetness in wine. In the eyes of the Chinese, dry red wine is not as good as homemade grape wine."
She glared at him and continued sipping her next glass.
October 8th, Thursday.
An Shiyu was cooking in the kitchen. The fumes were quite strong; she had the range hood on, but the smell still wafted out. She coughed as she cooked, but her hands didn't stop.
Lingyun sat in the living room and could hear sounds from the kitchen: the clinking of spatulas against pots and pans, the running of the faucet, and the occasional humming of a song.
Dinner is ready. Scrambled eggs with tomatoes, stir-fried bok choy, and a bowl of seaweed and egg drop soup.
An Shiyu served the food and sat down opposite him.
"Try it," she said.
Lingyun picked up a piece of egg with her chopsticks; the saltiness was just right.
"Delicious! My wife's cooking skills are really good. She has a talent for making delicious food." Ling Yun showered her with compliments.
She smiled and started eating herself.
After dinner, Ling Yun offered to wash the dishes. An Shiyu sat on the sofa watching TV, flipping through channels until she finally stopped at a variety show. The people on the show were laughing, and she laughed along.
After washing the dishes and drying his hands, Lingyun came over and sat down next to her.
She leaned on his shoulder. "Are you happy today?" Lingyun asked.
"I'm happy," she said. "I'm happy every day."
He didn't say anything, but simply reached out and pulled her closer.
With his beautiful woman in his arms, Ling Yun couldn't concentrate on watching TV anymore. He swept An Shiyu up in a princess carry and, amidst her sweet cries, strode into the bedroom...
