Chapter 36 Why are you hugging me, Mom?
Chapter 36 Why are you hugging me, Mom?
The infant, still in swaddling clothes, never uttered a cry from beginning to end; its tiny head had already been shattered by the immense impact.
He felt a chill run down his spine after seeing the news, and he remembers it vividly. He recalls that the news report was published at 11 o'clock.
He glanced down at his phone, and the 10:45 displayed on the screen calmed him down slightly—according to the timeline of his previous life, the young woman hadn't reached this intersection yet.
However, when he thought of that news report from his previous life, he was still worried and anxious. He could only feel at ease when he saw with his own eyes that the young woman was alright.
Then he didn't look at anything, just stood there looking around, as if he was waiting for someone.
Ye Fan was indeed waiting for someone, or rather, he was looking for someone.
After reading the report, he knew he could definitely help the young woman, because she happened to be waiting for a bus at that intersection, and if someone had just pulled her up, she would have been fine.
But the report said that no one was next to her. Maybe someone was there and ran away out of fear, but that doesn't matter anymore. In this life, he just wants to make sure that tragedy doesn't happen again.
Ye Fan took out his phone again to check the time.
The time displayed is 10:58.
It's probably coming soon.
Ye Fan was casually swiping his phone screen when he caught a glimpse of a figure walking towards him out of the corner of his eye.
She was a woman wearing a long purple dress, with her long, black hair loosely tied back, a few strands falling down her neck, and holding a sleeping baby in her arms.
Only upon closer inspection did one realize that this woman possessed an exceptionally captivating charm—she appeared to be no more than thirty years old, yet her brows exuded the gentle grace characteristic of a young married woman, like jade bathed in warm water, smooth and translucent.
She's the kind of beauty that grows on you the more you look at her.
Her skin was as white as fine porcelain, so delicate that not a single pore was visible; her features were exquisite yet understated, especially her peach blossom eyes, with slightly upturned corners, giving her a natural shyness when she looked at people, and when she smiled, her eyes would surely be captivating and enchanting.
Even with a bare face, her innate charm was undeniable. Coupled with her tall figure—estimated to be about the same height as Tang Yanning—she stood there like a painting bathed in soft light.
Ye Fan silently gave himself a score of 95. Then, he quietly added 3 more points to make it 98.
She had just stopped at the intersection when her phone started buzzing in her pocket.
The baby in her arms was securely held in place by a specially designed baby carrier. She used her right hand to answer the phone while her left hand gently supported the child's back, her movements practiced and tender.
She had barely uttered two sentences into the phone, her voice still lingering in the air...
Suddenly, a piercing engine roar came from not far away, and a Porsche rushed over like a wild beast, its speed probably reaching 120 miles per hour. The screeching sound of the tires screeching against the ground was painful to the eardrums!
Ye Fan's pupils contracted sharply, instantly snapping him out of his reverie, and his muscles tensed up abruptly.
He moved almost instinctively, his feet like springs, rushing toward the woman with lightning speed, his eyes filled with a terrifying sharpness.
He rushed towards the woman who was on the phone.
At the critical moment, he swiftly extended his left hand, firmly gripping the woman's slender waist, while simultaneously protecting the baby in her arms with his right hand, and used all his strength to retreat rapidly!
The woman was talking on the phone when she suddenly felt a tremendous force on her waist, as if she were being dragged backward by an irresistible force.
This sudden turn of events terrified her; her phone fell to the ground with a thud, and she staggered backward, losing her balance.
Ye Fan simply pulled her into his arms and held her firmly in his embrace.
"Boom—!"
A deafening roar almost lifted the air off its surface.
The yellow Porsche crashed solidly into the mango tree next to the sidewalk. The front of the car was instantly crushed, and the windshield shattered like a spider web, with shards scattered all over the ground.
"Damn it"
Ye Fan cursed under his breath, a layer of cold sweat seeping out of his back.
In his previous life, he had only seen tragedies in the news; he had never personally experienced such close-up danger. His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of his chest. Only after a dozen seconds, when he was sure there was no more danger around, did his tense muscles slowly relax.
He subconsciously looked down at the baby in his arms—the little guy had opened his eyes at some point, his bright, dark eyes staring straight at him, his little mouth slightly open, as if asking in bewilderment: Why are you holding my mom?
.......
At this moment, the woman finally recovered from her shock.
In that instant, she was suddenly grabbed around the waist. Her first thought was that she had encountered a robber. Before she could even scream, she was terrified by the deafening impact. She froze on the spot, her mind blank.
Only then did she belatedly realize that she was being held tightly in the arms of a strange boy.
The faint scent of soap wafted from the boy's body. Looking up, she met a pair of clear eyes filled with lingering fear—a very young face, his handsome features still bearing traces of youthful innocence, yet in that instant, he had given her a strange sense of security.
"Alright, get up."
A gentle yet magnetic voice sounded above her head. The woman happened to look up and met a pair of clear eyes.
Before her stood a handsome face, bearing the youthful naiveté unique to young men, yet when their eyes met, her flustered heart inexplicably calmed down.
She straightened up, supporting herself on Ye Fan's arm, and subconsciously took a half step back, her eyes quickly scanning the surroundings.
When he saw the Porsche with its front end completely dented on the side of the road, his pupils contracted sharply, his eyes instantly turned red, his nose tingled, and tears almost fell.
That's terrifying...
She was trembling uncontrollably, and her mind was buzzing.
If it weren't for that boy... what would she and her child be like now?
