Chapter 1026: Despair
Chapter 1026: Despair
The awakening of the Bleeding Moon shook the entire world.
The giant eye hanging within the cracked crimson moon gazed down upon the battlefield with an emotionless stare that made every cultivator present feel despair seep into their bones. The skies themselves seemed stained red while Blood Qi surged endlessly across the sect.
Yet the awakening came with a terrible price.
The two remaining Ancestors suddenly began deteriorating rapidly. Their bodies cracked apart like ancient statues weathered by endless time. Their already thin vitality vanished at terrifying speed as the moon absorbed everything they had left.
Sanguine Ancestor looked toward Patriarch Hong Tianyue.
"Tianyue..."
His voice had become weak and hollow.
Death Bell Ancestor also turned toward the Patriarch while struggling to remain standing.
"We leave the rest..."
"In your hands..."
"And the Bleeding Moon..."
Those were their final words.
The next moment both Ancestors crumbled into drifting ash. Their bodies scattered into the winds beneath the giant crimson eye above. Patriarch Hong Tianyue lowered his head briefly.
Even the ruthless Patriarch showed sorrow for a fleeting moment seeing the final demise of the ancient protectors of the sect. But the battlefield no longer had time for mourning. Han Yu and the others had waited desperately for the Ancestors to perish.
Yet none of them had expected this outcome.
The Ancestors had indeed died.
But before their deaths...
They had awakened something far more terrifying. The Bleeding Moon now stared down at the battlefield directly. And the pressure radiating from it surpassed everything they had experienced previously.
Han Yu felt the Qi within his body freeze momentarily beneath its gaze. Even the Geomancy Array feeding endless power into everyone seemed meaningless before that horrifying existence.
The moon looked alive.
Not like an artifact.
Not like a formation.
It resembled some ancient creature that had been sleeping for countless ages and had finally opened its eye.
Then suddenly...
WOOOOONG!
The moon emitted a strange cry. The sound echoed through heaven and earth like some ancient beast awakening from slumber. Energy gathered within the giant blood red eye rapidly.
A few seconds later...
A thin crimson beam shot downward.
ZANG!
The beam streaked across the sect faster than thought itself.
Han Yu instantly saw what happened next.
Every person touched by the beam simply dissolved into blood.
No explosion.
No shattered flesh.
No screaming.
Their bodies simply melted apart into puddles of crimson liquid.
Even their souls vanished completely.
"AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!" Han Yu roared immediately.
The remaining allied cultivators scattered frantically. The Blood Sect disciples themselves also avoided the beam desperately. It quickly became clear that the Bleeding Moon did not distinguish friend from foe.
Anything touched by the crimson beam died instantly.
The battlefield descended into total chaos. And Patriarch Hong Tianyue finally began showing his full might. With the Bleeding Moon awakened behind him, the Patriarch’s aura surged several times over.
Blood Qi gathered around him endlessly while red moonlight wrapped around his body.
He attacked fiercely now.
Terrifying moon arts rained across the battlefield while the awakened moon continued slaughtering indiscriminately from above. Hundreds of experts died every minute. The remaining allied forces collapsed rapidly.
Even Dao Treading realm cultivators empowered by the Geomancy Array could not resist the moon’s beams. Han Yu personally saw two amplified Dao Treading experts touched by the crimson light.
They vanished instantly into blood puddles.
No resistance whatsoever.
At that moment everyone realized something horrifying.
Cultivation level meant nothing against the moon’s power. It simply erased everything equally. And the beams were not the only danger, the gigantic blood tentacles extending from the moon also began attacking continuously.
Some wrapped around fleeing cultivators before crushing them apart like insects.
Others slammed into peaks and flattened entire sections of the battlefield. One tentacle swept through the skies and directly smashed apart dozens of Nascent Soul experts trying to flee together.
Blood rained endlessly from above.
The Slaughtered Moon Divine Blood Sect had transformed into a nightmare.
Within only ten minutes...
Nearly everything collapsed.
Only around ten percent of the allied forces still remained alive. Han Yu’s breathing had already become ragged. He quickly searched the battlefield desperately for his companions. Thankfully he finally found them.
Qing Luan was injured badly with blood staining her robes.
Wu Shuan’s left arm hung limply.
Senior Brother Duan had multiple wounds across his chest.
Xuan Qing herself looked pale and exhausted.
But all four still lived.
Han Yu felt slight relief seeing them alive.
Yet many of the others from the Twin Leaf Peak Sect had already perished. Han Yu’s heart ached seeing the empty spaces where familiar faces should have been. But he understood something clearly.
Everyone who came here already knew the risks.
This war had never promised survival. The real problem now was the Bleeding Moon itself. The Ancestors had possessed limited time because of their exhausted lifespans. But the moon...
The moon constantly absorbed Blood Qi from the sect itself.
Every death strengthened it further.
Han Yu suddenly realized a terrifying possibility.
It might continue endlessly.
Meanwhile Patriarch Hong Tianyue’s laughter echoed across the battlefield.
"HAHAHAHA!"
"All shall perish beneath the gaze of the Bleeding Moon!"
The Patriarch truly looked ecstatic.
For generations the Blood Sect had worshipped the Bleeding Moon while barely understanding its true nature. Yet it had never awakened in over a hundred thousand years.
And now it had finally revealed its power.
Hong Tianyue felt immense pride at witnessing it.
Han Yu and the others continued fleeing desperately through the battlefield while avoiding the increasingly numerous crimson beams.
The moon seemed to target movement itself.
The more cultivators fled...
The more beams descended.
Han Yu suffered several close calls.
Twice the crimson light barely missed him by centimeters.
One beam struck the ground beside him and transformed an entire valley into a giant pool of blood instantly.
Then suddenly...
Han Yu felt his heart freeze.
One of the moon’s beams shifted direction.
Toward Xuan Qing.
His senior sister was already exhausted from the fighting. Her speed had slowed greatly after her injuries and she failed to notice the beam descending toward her from above. Han Yu’s mind instantly went blank.
There was no time to think.
No time to calculate.
Only instinct remained.
He moved immediately.
BOOM!
Han Yu exploded forward at full speed.
Every ounce of Qi within his body erupted as he rushed toward Xuan Qing desperately.
"Han Yu?" Qing Luan shouted in shock.
Han Yu ignored everything.
He only saw the crimson beam approaching Xuan Qing.
He knew he would die.
But that no longer mattered.
The Undying Life Anchor would revive him eventually.
He could survive death.
Xuan Qing could not.
Han Yu reached her in the next instant and shoved her away violently.
"Han Yu! NOOO!" Xuan Qing screamed.
Han Yu merely smiled faintly.
The crimson beam now hovered barely an inch away from his body.
Death stood directly before him.
Then suddenly...
A voice echoed across the battlefield.
"Enough."
The world stopped.
Everything froze instantly.
The moon beams halted midair.
The tentacles stopped moving.
Flying debris froze motionless.
Even the raging Blood Qi across the skies became still.
Time itself seemed suspended.
Every cultivator present widened their eyes in disbelief.
Then...
Footsteps echoed softly across the silent battlefield.
A figure slowly walked through the frozen skies.
Black robes.
Calm expression.
And a small red cat resting upon his shoulder.
Lin Mu had arrived.
