Chapter 325: Corrupted Essence, Finding Celeste and Emilia In the Realm
Chapter 325: Corrupted Essence, Finding Celeste and Emilia In the Realm
[Goblin of Oblivion Essence x8 (Corrupted): Consuming this will increase Strength by 150.]
[Goblin of Oblivion Club x8 (Rare)]
"Not that good actually," Leon mumbled to himself as he read through the loot list, "The essence is the best thing here by far, the clubs are basically worthless."
Though of course, Leon noticed the "corrupted" tag that the essence had been given by the system, meaning that maybe not everybody could consume it safely without suffering some kind of side effect.
Much like in the [Exiled Lands], these essences had some sort of side effects attached to them, which was exactly why they were so strong compared to normal essences.
Even for a level ninety player who had access to powerful gear and skills, adding one hundred and fifty points of strength to their attributes all at once was an amazing boost.
No matter how tempting the stat boost was though, Leon was not stupid enough to try consuming one of these corrupted essences right now.
If something bad happened to him as a result, he would not be able to help Celeste and Emilia when they needed him the most.
After around twenty minutes of continuous running through the dark and twisted forest, he finally reached the place where Celeste had been standing on his map.
She was busy running away from a group of two goblins who wanted to catch her and probably kill her, her face pale with fear as she dodged their clumsy swings.
"Kyuu~" Pyra was trying to attack the goblins with her small flames, shooting fireball after fireball at their faces.
But unfortunately she was not strong enough to do any real damage, only managing to burn their skin superficially without stopping their advance.
’If I remember correctly from her stats, Pyra is level nine right now, which means she’s really close to her first evolution and just needs a bit more experience to get there,’ Leon thought as he watched the small phoenix struggle.
Leon was actually pretty shocked that she hadn’t evolved during Celeste’s assessment in the [Expert Divine Temple] given how much fighting had likely happened in there.
But maybe the pet just hadn’t had the chance to be properly summoned and used in combat during that time.
"You alright down there?" Leon asked as he helped Celeste up off the ground after killing the two goblins.
She had tripped on a root while trying to escape from them.
"These goblins are really strong for normal monsters, way stronger than anything you’d find outside this realm."
"Y-Yeah, I’m fine now that you’re here," Celeste sighed with relief as she dusted herself off, "And the way they looked with all those purple cracks in their skin... it was really scary, I’ve never seen anything like that before."
Leon had noticed some holes made in the goblins’ skin from Celeste’s spear, though that damage wasn’t even enough to stop them apparently, showing just how much the corruption had increased their durability.
"Did you try using the [Soul Flame Spear]’s blessing or even your [Darkness Ember] against them?" Leon asked, "Just so you know, soul attacks are REALLY strong, so much so that they can one-shot even monsters like these without any trouble at all."
Since soul attacks aimed directly at the very essence of a monster rather than its physical body, even a level seventy five player like Celeste could potentially kill these level ninety goblins if she landed a solid hit on them.
And that’s exactly why soul attacks were so incredibly rare to begin with in this world.
They were just way too strong compared to regular physical or magical attacks.
Even Leon didn’t have a soul attack in his own arsenal yet, but because of the special blessing on Celeste’s spear from the blood heart, she could unleash one whenever she needed it the most.
[Blood Heart Blessing: When the user is in a tough situation and wills it, their next attack can turn into a "Soul" attack.]
Leon also noticed that the [Darkness Ember]’s description specifically mentioned souls in its text, meaning that he had to assume those dark flames could be useful against enemies as well if she learned how to use them properly.
[Darkness Embers: The flames of darkness will surround you and destroy all those that get near, unleash them on your foes to burn their souls’ light.]
"No, I haven’t tried either of those things," Celeste shook her head with frustration clear on her face, "I don’t know how to use my darkness ember at all, no matter how hard I try to activate it, the ability just doesn’t work for me."
Celeste’s original [Phoenix Ember] only worked after she killed a monster with her own hands, letting her burn their body and gain a permanent increase to her attributes from the kill.
But unlike the phoenix ember which was mostly a passive benefit, the darkness ember was actually an active combat ability, which meant that Celeste had no idea how to properly wield it in the heat of battle.
"Hm..." Leon scratched his chin thoughtfully as he considered her problem, "We’ll have to test that out, you’re definitely going to need to use all of your embers going forward, especially if you get more of them in the future."
For now though, Leon decided to move on from this topic because he needed to also find Emilia before something bad happened to her as well.
Unlike Celeste who was relatively fragile and defenseless against these high level monsters, Emilia wasn’t totally defenseless on her own, but that didn’t mean Leon could leave her alone in this place especially since she had already died here once before.
Leon decided to hold Celeste in his arms as he ran because it was way faster to carry her than to have her try to keep up with his speed on foot.
The phoenix girl simply blushed a little at being carried but let him do it without complaining.
She knew he was much faster than her and that getting to Emilia quickly was the most important thing right now.
But as Leon burst into the clearing where Emilia was supposed to be waiting, his eyes widened in shock at the sight in front of him.
BOOM!
Right there in front of him was a group of four massive monsters that were towering over the trees around them, eagerly advancing toward the elf girl who stood her ground with her scepter raised high.
---
[Ogre of Oblivion]
[Level: 90]
[Exclusive Talent: Corrupted (A-Level)]
[Combat Power: 3,200,000]
[Details: The same as the goblins, but its an ogre.]
---
These monsters were way stronger than the goblins he had faced earlier, standing at around 2.8 meters tall with massive muscular frames.
And on top of that they even had a group of regular goblins gathered around them like servants protecting their masters.
Their bodies also had the same violet cracks spreading all over their skin, though the cracks on these ogres were much wider and more numerous than on the smaller goblins, which showed a deeper level of corruption.
Emilia on the other hand seemed to be in a really bad spot based on her expression.
She knew Leon would come for her eventually, but she had no idea when he would actually show up.
And she knew that she couldn’t really fight these monsters alone without risking death again.
"You’re the same group from before, aren’t you?" she shouted at the ogres as she lifted her scepter high above her head, "I’m going to destroy all of you this time, you’re not going to kill me again!"
